60 Second Hint/Help: Using Movie Clips and Media. The right clip can make a lesson pop—but the wrong one can distract or derail. Want to use media wisely? Here’s how:
1. Make It Mission-Centered. Ask: Does this clip support the message—or just entertain? If it doesn’t move the lesson forward, skip it.
2. Keep It Short and Sharp. Aim for 1–2 minutes max. Attention spans are short—so should your clips be.
3. Set It Up Well. Don’t just press play. Give students a lens: “Watch for how this character wrestles with truth,” or “Notice the tension in this scene.”
4. Always Preview Everything. Even a “clean” movie can have a surprise line or visual. Watch it all the way through before using it.
5. Debrief Immediately. Ask a question or make a connection right after the clip. Don’t lose the moment.
Pro Tip: Media should be a window, not the whole view—use it to point students to something deeper.
