Measuring student discipleship can be tricky since spiritual growth isn’t always easily quantifiable. However, here are five key metrics that can help assess a student’s discipleship journey:
1. Biblical Engagement – Are they consistently reading, studying, and applying Scripture?
- Do they have a personal Bible-reading habit?
- Are they able to connect Scripture to their daily lives?
- Do they actively participate in Bible discussions?
2. Prayer Life – Are they developing a meaningful relationship with God through prayer?
- Do they pray regularly (alone and with others)?
- Are they growing in how they pray (beyond just requests to deeper intimacy with God)?
- Are they seeing and recognizing answered prayers?
3. Christlike Character & Obedience – Is their faith transforming how they live?
- Are they making choices that reflect Christ’s teachings?
- Do they show love, forgiveness, and humility in relationships?
- Are they striving to align their lives with biblical values?
4. Missional Living & Evangelism – Are they actively sharing their faith and serving others?
- Do they look for ways to love and serve people around them?
- Have they invited friends to youth group or church?
- Are they bold in sharing their testimony and faith in Jesus?
5. Authentic Community & Discipleship – Are they engaged in biblical community and helping others grow?
- Are they committed to a local church or youth group?
- Do they have mentors and/or are they mentoring others?
- Are they participating in small groups, accountability, and spiritual friendships?
Each student’s journey is unique, but tracking growth in these five areas can help you see where they are thriving and where they need encouragement. Would you add or tweak anything?
