Resource Review: “Raising Girls”

Raising Girls Todd Jones

Resource Review: Raising Girls,” a Christian Parenting Book, A Practical Guide to Faith-Based Parenting.”

First, I must apologize to the author of this book, Todd Jones. I was so excited to receive this book after reading his previous books and getting to know him over the years. This book sat on my desk for a few months before I read it and has been waiting for me to re-read it and review it. I apologize because this book is OUTSTANDING!

While I have not been able to write a review, I have recommended this book to parents in my family ministry because it is an absolute Grand Slam. As a dad of four daughters (and a baseball player), Todd steps up to the plate and sends it. This is by far the best parenting book I have read in a while. He does not hold back and does not miss a thing.

This book is a thorough and complete guide for parents raising their daughters. It is fundamental and practical while offering a depth of insight that creates a full lineup of heavy-hitter topics. It is a playbook that provides more than thoughts or theory but actual real-life application. While many parent books seem to coach from the dugout, this book steps on the field with real-life experience and confidence.

The book starts off laying down a strong foundation for rookies, and pro’s in the parenting game. The first three chapters are a well-thought-out overview of Christian parenting girls, including developmental basics.

The middle section (part 2) of the book “Foundational Parenting Principles” is perfect for any parents raising sons or daughters. The book leans in over the plate without apology as it stares down the challenges of parents living counter-culturally, instilling value and trust through setting boundaries and authority in the home.

Jones points to the fences, offering up targeted parenting strategies that are a win. Each of these chapters is short but powerful, with an insightful vision of Godly, Biblical parenting changed up by the slider of secularized culture. I love his practical pointers and step-by-step processes in these chapters, along with some “does” and “don’t’s.”

Beyond the words of wisdom, there is considerable value in the reflection questions at the end of each chapter. This allows the book to be read together as parents or easily translated into a whole study for a parenting class or small group.

This is a grand-slam home run for your home team.
