Quick Explanation
Capture the Flame is a giant, high-energy version of Capture the Flag. Instead of stealing a flag, teams try to extinguish the other team’s tiki torch using water balloons (and optional water weapons). If you get hit, you’re out. The last torch still lit wins. -
Supplies Needed
-
A large field
-
4 tiki torches (mounted about 8 feet high)
-
A LOT of water balloons
-
Optional: water guns or balloon launchers
-
4 different colored shirts (cut into strips for team headbands)
-
Lighter (in case torches go out on their own)
-
Speakers for music (optional but highly recommended)
-
-
How to Play
-
Divide players into 2-4 teams and assign each team a tiki torch base.
-
Give each team a different color headband or bandanna.
-
Scatter water balloons around the field or stock them at bases.
-
On the start signal, players attack other teams by throwing water balloons while defending their own torch.
-
When a team’s torch is extinguished, that team is eliminated.
-
The game continues until only one torch remains lit.
-
-
Rules
-
If you are hit by a water balloon, you are out.
-
Eliminated players must leave the field immediately.
-
No relighting torches once a team is eliminated.
-
If a torch goes out accidentally (wind, faulty wick), an adult can relight it.
-
No physical contact—water weapons only.
