When Your Arms Get Tired

When Your Arms Get Tired: A Ministry Lesson from Moses. Have you ever felt completely worn out in ministry? Maybe your to-do list feels endless, or the emotional weight of serving others is heavy. The good news? Even God’s chosen leaders got tired — and they didn’t have to do it alone.

The Story

In Exodus 17:8–13, Israel was in battle with Amalek. As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning. But Moses’ arms grew tired.

Enter Aaron and Hur. They didn’t scold him for slowing down or take over the fight themselves. They sat him down and held his arms up until the battle was won.

Victory came, not because Moses was stronger, but because he had help.

3 Lessons for Ministry

1. Even Strong Leaders Get Tired
Moses was called and chosen by God — and still needed a break. Feeling weary doesn’t make you weak; it makes you human.

2. Ministry Is Meant to Be Shared
Victory didn’t come from Moses alone. God designed ministry for teamwork. Let others support you — and let yourself be supported.

3. Support Changes Outcomes
When Moses had help, the battle shifted. One act of encouragement or practical help can completely change the trajectory of a week — for you and for someone else.

Challenge for This Week

  • Look at your “arms”: Where are you tired?

  • Ask for help: Invite someone to help hold your arms up.

  • Lift others: Who might need your support this week?

Ministry wins aren’t built on lone superheroes — they’re built on supported, connected leaders. Be honest about your fatigue, accept help, and lift others along the way.

“Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor. If either of them falls down, one can help the other up.” — Ecclesiastes 4:9–10
