Global Leadership Summit Takeaways

Global LeadershipSummit Takeaways, ten key things I personally took away from this year’s Global Leadership Network annual summit and GLS: Next Gen connections at Willow Creek Community Church last week.

10. TRUST: Leadership is based on and about trust. A leader earns the right to be trusted and freely trusts their team.

9. CONSISTENCY: Leadership is about consistent, dependable character, attitude, and habits.

8. INCLUSION: Leadership is not about diversity but inclusion.  Leadership is not about who is on your team but what you invite and allow them to do.

7. DISCERNMENT: Leadership is more than being the smartest person in the room. Leadership is about the wisdom to see the context of the whole.

6. FAILURE:  Leadership starts with failure and allowing others to fail.  Successes come from learning from failures.

5. COMMUNITY: Leadership can be lonely, but it does not have to be if we choose to find friendships and build connections with others.

4. EXCELLENCE: Leaders with clear expectations and standards give teams freedom, ownership, and permission to succeed.

3. HUMILITY: Leadership is modeled, not commanded.  A humble leader willing to listen and learn will be able to lead better and stronger organizations.

2. LOVE:  Leaders love who they are with and love what they get to do. Without a passion for people, the product and production will suffer.

1. CALLING: Leadership is a Godly calling, not a human positional assignment.  Great leaders are called to do great things, lead amazing people, and accomplish the exceptional.
